Message from Patsy with all the necessary information.

1. E-TICKET. Don’t forget to print out your E-Ticket and PLEASE REMEMBER TO TAKE THE CREDIT CARD YOU USED TO PAY FOR THIS AS IT MAY BE REQUESTED WHEN YOU CHECK IN AS FURTHER PROOF OF WHO YOU ARE.

2. VISAS FOR TANZANIA – This can be done when we arrive in Zanzibar, but please print out the Visa Application Form and remember you will need 2 x passport pics for the visa. (see attached)

3. PASSPORT – Take a copy of your passport and keep separate (in case you lose your passport, you’ll be able to get a temporary one on the basis of the copy)

4. MEDICINES - Remember to take all your usual medications. Plus bring a prescription in case you lose/run out.

5. TRAVEL INSURANCE - Take a copy of your travel insurance with you with the emergency number to call. Make make sure you’re covered for repatriation. Also give a copy to someone back home in case they have to follow up.

6. Don’t forget a hat/sunglasses, Sunscreen

8. If taking a credit card with you – make sure you keep the number of card and the contact telephone in case it’s lost/stolen (same as passport)

10. STERLING is also widely acceptable, so take this instead as it’ll save you having to pay further commission on the $ and possibly lose out on the exchange rates.

11. TEMBO HOTEL – IF PAYING BY CREDIT CARD, THEY WILL CHARGE AN EXTRA 10% ON THE BILL.

12. PICNIC - We are planning on treating some of our special friends in Zanzibar to a picnic (the cost of which will be divided equally between all of us travelling to Zanzibar). We’re hoping to have this on Sunday 4th November either at Bwjeuu or Uroa. T.B.A. At the moment there are approx. 45 people on the list including ourselves.

New update above.

FINAL PLAN

Dear Team Members (one and all)

Further to earlier postings after our meeting at Dr. Betty Spry’s home on Easter Sunday. I wish to bring to your attention that the group decision we have made for and on behalf of the group is as follows. 1st week at Tembo, and 2nd week at Mapenzi.

On arrival in Zanzibar on Tuesday 30th October 2012, we make our way to Tembo hotel where Tony Madeira has negotiated special rates as listed below

We have decided whilst in Stonetown, we will plan our own outings etc. This would mean we will all share transport costs for all the team members. Note Mervyn and Pervin will not be with us the first week so we will be a party of 10.

TEMBO RATES – 1st week.
Dates: Tuesday 30th October – Monday 5th November 2012

De Luxe rooms facing the sea/pool discounted at $USD130 per night for a Double Room = £87 per room for a couple x 6 nights = £522 per couple.

Same rate applies for a single person wanting Sea and Pool View.

Single room facing the street is @ $USD100 per night = $USD 600 or £400.

Rooky will be staying at the SERENA during the first week but will be joining us at the best of times, we hope!

MAPENZI BEACH CLUB – 2nd week.

Under negotiated and agreed group booking, we have to stay for a minimum of 5 nights which commences on Monday 5th November check out Wednesday 10th November 2012.

RATES AS FOLLOWS:-

5 Nights has been guaranteed at $USD135 per person per night = $ USD 675 or £450 per person for 5 nights which is FULL BOARD ALL INCLUSIVE. (This confirms you have your Breakfast, Lunch and Dinners plus free drinks right through).

Besides the all-inclusive deal, there is daily night live entertainment and some special theme nights. All details will follow.

Please note:- Mapenzi hotel rooms are De Luxe Sea/Beach rooms, the very best rooms at Mapeni. Thanks to Pervin who has negotiated exceptional rates.

IMPORTANT NOTICE.
Those wanting to stay at MAPENZI for the extra 3 nights are welcome to do so at the same rate but this must be confirmed in advance (within the next few days), and prior to Pervin sealing the full deal. This means, we cannot decide whilst enjoying our 5 nights whether we want to stay longer, the same
discounted rates cannot be guaranteed and equally our rooms cannot be guaranteed so in a NUTSHELL, we must decide now and not later.

Seeing what is on offer, now also surfing the website and knowing Mapenai is connected to La Gemma, the standards are high so to me, well worth it.

Individuals have to make up their own minds.

CONCLUSION.
I will provide more details of all the advantages at Mapenzi and any member is free to ask questions prior to you finally making up your minds.

The above plans have been approved by 5 members who met on Easter Sunday, and with prior guidelines from Bruno, who said he was happy to go with what we plan almost makes it 100 approved project, as Rooky has also agreed to be in town for the first week, so has Albert.

Only outstanding issue is that we have to make up our minds from the start as to whether you want to stay the extra 3 days at Mapenzi or return to StoneTown.

PLEASE SEE PERVIN’S EMAIL BELOW.
By receipt of this update, please take a couple of days to go over the plans and all information provided, you are free to ask any questions directed and copied to Pervin, Patsy and myself which will be answered. For those who want to spend the extra 3 days at Mapeni, please let me know ASAP which will assist in further final plans.

We do hope the information provided above and with Pervin’s message below is sufficient for everyone to make up their minds re second week.

A daily guideline programme for the first week will follow but it will only be a provisional programme subject to change and subject to what the majority want. I will release some suggestions but again open to further discussions whilst we are in Zanzibar.

Please note:   Rooky leaves Zanzibar on 12th November and  John De Silva leaves on the 11th November. The rest of us leave Zanzibar on 13th  November 2012.

P.S. Patsy,  Dr. Betty and Alan, if I have missed out anything we  discussed on Sunday needing further attention or have provided wrong quotes, please bring to my attention.

Dear Patsy and Benito,

Noted the dates for MAPENZI is CHECK IN 5th NOV and CHECK OUT 10 th NOV., which is 5 nights.

If anyone wants to stay the next 3 nights 10, 11 and 12 th NOV, there as well, they will have to decide soon, if they want the same rates to apply. You cannot expect to arrive there first and then see if you want to stay more days, as that will depend on if they have accommodation, in the first place, and then their normal rates might apply. So let each one decide and let me know when you are giving me the go ahead to book.

Wildersun will pay the deposits when they are required. The balance will also have to be paid by Wildersun by cheque.

So payment cannot be done by each individual with their credit cards. We trust that each person of the group, once the deposits are paid will honour the payment. The total amount for the single for five nights is 675 USD and for the double for five nights is 1350 USD. This could be paid to us on arrival, in Cash USD. If anyone does not want to pay by cash on arrival, then they can send a bank transfer one month before the arrival of the group, to Wildersun, for which we can provide the bank details if required. For Rooky I will deal with her directly re this payment.

For Bruno, since he is doing a safari, we will include the beach payment in the safari amount. So Benito, if you could be kind enough as to be the collector for the UK group you have to only deal with the 7 UK based group. Thank you.

We will do our best to get rooms close to one another and not far from the pool area but to guarantee that we will have A BLOCK FOR OURSELVES is beyond my control. They have 30 Beach Front units. So everyone comes from their rooms to the meeting point. We will keep the most convenient room for the midnight partying!! Some will need their little privacy if you get what I mean.

Whatever made you hope that the transfers from Town to Mapenzi and back are included??? No, the transfers are definitely not included. Check Tony’s price list to see what that will cost. All Tembo reservation and ground transport for transfers, and Zanzibar Island tours is best done through Tony Madeira. I can only say that it is much cheaper moving in a group, that way you share the cost of the whole vehicle

And finally, the youngest ‘baby’ of the team is not Rooky. It is Patsy. How she is travelling with oldies like us, I have no idea!! Ha, ha, got you there. And another place you booped is with the boop. It’s not Betty Boop but Betty Buu. The item on Tom cruise was “breaking news”.

Regards, Pervin.

Dear Zanzibar Holiday Team Members

Whilst enjoying a great day at Dr. Betty's home, we spent a while discussing 'MAPENZI' Beach hotel recommended by Mervyn and Pervin to be considered for our second week.

Taking all points into consideration, there were many advantages settling for Mapenzi instead of Blue Bay. Discounts were great.

Mapenzi is an all-inclusive hotel with selected deluxe sea front rooms right on the beach.

On behalf of all members of our group we have settled for Mapenzi spending 5 nights (least days under group contract/discounts, with the option of anyone wanting to stay longer are welcome at the same package deal).

Live entertainment daily at the hotel. Details will follow.

1st week will be at Tembo hotel where we will be planning picnics/excursions on a daily basis. Eating will be around Stone Town.

Just waiting for confirmation on a few more points from Pervin and once received, full plans with details of hotels etc will be released on our Team blogspot under 'Final Planning'. You will be advised when released.

Thanks to Dr. Betty for allowing us to conduct discussions as we were 5 in total at Betty's home helping to decide on behalf of the group. I feel certain we have made the right decision for all.

Best regards
Benny

Dear Team

Good to report that all the team members have fully paid for their return flights to Zanzibar and the Electronic (ETickets) have been issued to all members individually via their email addresses. Please remember to save your Eticket on your computer and equally print out a copy of your ticket which is your valid flight travel document.

ID YOURSELF AT THE AIRPORT.

You will have to bring with you your Credit/Debit card to ID yourself at the airport as a safety measure confirming someone else has not printed your ticket and someone else trying to use it for travel. Of course this would be rare as one would have to produce a passport with your name to match.

In general your passport is what one needs but the travel agent has advised to have your payment card used for your booking available. For those who paid by bankers draft, dont know what is required but all I can say is this is just an over kill precaution in case two people try to fly with the same name. Ha Ha two Benny's appear at the airport on the same day, same time plus same flight.

Final team programme plans will follow once we have fully settled on the hotel arrangements.

Above is for information as directed by Mr. Ford (Travel Agent).

BAGGAGE ALLOWANCE.

Each member is allowed two suitcases of 23 kilos each

Plus hand luggage upto 7 kilos.

Total allowance 23 x 2 kilos - each suitcase must not exceed 23 kilos.

Hand luggage 7 kilos.

ZANZIBAR VISAS.

Details will follow. Normally we could pay at the airport using US s but cannot remember if it is $25 or $50. Will have to check and advise. Equally one can get visas from the Tanzanian High Commission. Easier on arrival.

ANTI MALARIAL TABLETS.

Hi All,

Even you out there, hardened Zanzibaris , will need an antimalarial because the previous immunity you had acquired from living in a malarial area once upon a time, would have been lost, after all these years.

The recommended antimalarials for Zanzibar are :

MALARONE one tablet taken daily starting from 2days before travel and continuing for 1 week after your return. It is available only on prescription. Which means you need 23 tabs for those on a 2wk trip.

OR

DOXYCYCLINE ( 100mg ) one tablet to be taken daily starting from 2 days before and continuing for 4weeks after your return. Again, available only on prescription and requiring 44 tabs.

I trust you find this helpful

Kind regards to all

betty s.
